A week with Lucía

Off the night shift, straight to the beach.

How was Saturday's dinner with your family?

Me dejaste con la intriga. You left me curious.

Voice note, 0:27

Hoy un paciente me ha pedido matrimonio. Today a patient proposed to me.

Tiene noventa y dos años. Me lo pienso. He's ninety-two. I'm thinking it over.

¿Y tu examen de conducir, qué tal? And your driving test, how did it go?

Yo gusto mucho la paella.

¿Te gusta mucho la paella? You really like paella?

Pues has dado con la persona adecuada. Then you've found the right person.

My mum's in Alzira is the best.

Esta semana, cuatro días. This week, four days.

El jueves, el indefinido sin dudar. On Thursday, the preterite without hesitating.

Lo siguiente: ser y estar. Sin prisa. Next up: ser and estar. No rush.

Every Sunday, a letter.

La tua settimana

7 to 13 September · B1, since 24 August

An example from a week of Italian, not a real learner's week

At your level

The same message from Lucía, written for three levels.

Luego duermo. ¿Te gusta el mar?

Today I finish work at eight in the morning. I go to the beach. Then I sleep. Do you like the sea?

Hoy he salido del último turno de noche y me he ido directa a la playa del Cabanyal. Un café, el mar y a dormir. ¿Tú qué haces para desconectar?

Today I came off my last night shift and went straight to the beach at El Cabanyal. A coffee, the sea and off to sleep. What do you do to switch off?

I've just finished the last of three night shifts in a row and, instead of going home like a sensible person, I've planted myself on the beach at El Cabanyal to watch the sunrise with a coffee in my hand. I'll sleep later. Do you have a little ritual for switching off too?

Questions.

Are the companions real people?

No. Every companion is an AI and says so in its first message. They have consistent lives, opinions and moods, and they remember what you tell them, but they are not people.

Does this replace my app or my tutor?

No. It adds a daily conversation beside them. Keep them.

What level do I need?

You can already hold a simple conversation in the language, roughly A2 and up. Companions shorten their sentences to match you. Complete beginners: not yet.

How do corrections work?

Inside the conversation, the way a friend would rephrase what you said. At most two patterns a week are raised, and Sunday's letter summarises them.

What is in the Sunday letter?

Days you talked, minutes, new words, words that came back, sentence length, your level, and the two patterns to work on. One letter per language, plus a PDF.

Why Telegram?

It is already on your phone and your desktop, voice notes work well, and there is nothing new to install.

Do I have to write every day?

No. You choose when a companion may write, and you answer when you can. Quiet weeks are allowed.

Can I talk instead of type?

Yes. Voice notes both ways.

Who reads my messages, and can I delete them?

Your messages build a companion's memory of you, nothing else. From one settings page you can download what your companions know, make them forget, or delete everything.

How much, and how do I cancel?

14 euro a month or 99 euro a year, VAT included, after a free week with no card. Pause for two or four weeks, or cancel, from one screen. No email, no call.

Other languages?

Italian, German, Spanish, English and French. Missing yours? Tell us which language you'd like to practice when you start your free week, and we write to you the day it opens.

Can I have two companions?

Yes, in one language or in several. One subscription covers every companion in every language, and each companion has its own settings.

It's still in there.
