A week with Giulia

Lunedì, giorno libero. Monday, my day off.

Com'è andata la cena di sabato? How did Saturday's dinner go?

Mi hai lasciata sulle spine. You left me on tenterhooks.

Voice note, 0:24

Una cliente cercava un libro blu. A customer was looking for a blue book.

Senza titolo. L'abbiamo trovato lo stesso. No title. We found it anyway.

E la tua prima lezione di yoga? And your first yoga class?

You wrote

Questa settimana ho comprato molto libri.

Molti libri, addirittura? Lots of books, even?

Ti capisco, ne compro troppi anch'io. I get it, I buy too many too.

Quale leggi per primo? Which one are you reading first?

Questa settimana, quattro giorni su sette. This week, four days out of seven.

Giovedì, passato prossimo senza esitare. On Thursday, the passato prossimo without hesitating.

Due cose da sistemare, poi ti lascio in pace. Two things to work on, then I'll leave you in peace.

Every Sunday, a letter.

La tua settimana

7 to 13 September · B1, since 24 August

An example from a week of Italian, not a real learner's week

At your level

The same message from Giulia, written for three levels.

Stasera vado al cinema. Vado da sola. Il martedì il biglietto costa poco. Ti piace il cinema?

Tonight I'm going to the cinema. I'm going on my own. On Tuesdays the ticket is cheap. Do you like the cinema?

Stasera vado al cinema da sola, come ogni martedì: il biglietto costa meno e la sala è mezza vuota. Tu che film hai visto ultimamente?

Tonight I'm going to the cinema on my own, like every Tuesday: the ticket is cheaper and the room is half empty. What film have you seen lately?

Stasera mi concedo il solito cinema del martedì, da sola, che a dirla tutta è il modo migliore: nessuno che commenta, nessuno che fa rumore con i popcorn. Tu sei da prima fila o da ultima?

Tonight I'm treating myself to the usual Tuesday cinema, on my own, which, truth be told, is the best way: nobody commenting, nobody rustling popcorn. Are you a front-row or a back-row person?

Questions.

Are the companions real people?

No. Every companion is an AI and says so in its first message. They have consistent lives, opinions and moods, and they remember what you tell them, but they are not people.

Does this replace my app or my tutor?

No. It adds a daily conversation beside them. Keep them.

What level do I need?

You can already hold a simple conversation in the language, roughly A2 and up. Companions shorten their sentences to match you. Complete beginners: not yet.

How do corrections work?

Inside the conversation, the way a friend would rephrase what you said. At most two patterns a week are raised, and Sunday's letter summarises them.

What is in the Sunday letter?

Days you talked, minutes, new words, words that came back, sentence length, your level, and the two patterns to work on. One letter per language, plus a PDF.

Why Telegram?

It is already on your phone and your desktop, voice notes work well, and there is nothing new to install.

Do I have to write every day?

No. You choose when a companion may write, and you answer when you can. Quiet weeks are allowed.

Can I talk instead of type?

Yes. Voice notes both ways.

Who reads my messages, and can I delete them?

Your messages build a companion's memory of you, nothing else. From one settings page you can download what your companions know, make them forget, or delete everything.

How much, and how do I cancel?

14 euro a month or 99 euro a year, VAT included, after a free week with no card. Pause for two or four weeks, or cancel, from one screen. No email, no call.

Other languages?

Italian, German, Spanish, English and French. Missing yours? Tell us which language you'd like to practice when you start your free week, and we write to you the day it opens.

Can I have two companions?

Yes, in one language or in several. One subscription covers every companion in every language, and each companion has its own settings.

It's still in there.
